This first entry is mainly to outline our itinerary so that you'll always know roughly where in the world we are!
22 January 2006 - 9 March 2006 : North America
7 week road trip around the west coast including LA, San Diego, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Francisco and the wonderfully named town of Templeton! I have a feeling I will find going there just that little bit too exciting...
9 March 2006 - 25 March 2006 : Fiji
We have 2 weeks in this paradise recovering from Dan's driving in America. Most of the fortnight will be spent on the main island and we hope to also visit Robinson Crusoe Island, Beachcomber Island and then hop around the Yasawa Islands. Not literally though, obviously.
25 March 2006 - 29 April 2006 : New Zealand
We only have 5 weeks here to take advantage of our hop-on hop-off bus ticket taking us around the North and South Islands. If I can get the balls I might do a sky dive here, but I wouldn't hold your breath...
29 April 2006 - 25 June 2006 : Australia
During the first 6 weeks weeks we'll be taking road trip up the east coast from Sydney to Cairns. We then have 5 days to see central Australia (most notably Ayers Rock) before flying down to Melbourne for a week of exploring the Great Ocean Road and, best of all, the Neighbours set! You know I can't go to Australia without giving it a visit.
25 June 2006 - 29 July 2006 : South Africa
5 weeks hop-on hop-off bus ticket to travel rather hastily along the south and east coast of South Africa via Swaziland and Lesotho. Hoping to sample a lot of the local wine and maybe even play with a few lion cubs.
29 July 2006 - 16 August 2006 : Tanzania and Kenya
Our trip concludes with our one and only tour. We spend 16 days doing the following:
* Hands on work at a local school
* Visit to the Born Free Foundation
* Safari in Lake Nakuru (excellent for rhino)
* Kenyan colonial farm visit
* Camping wild in the Serengeti
* Hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti
* Jeep safari and wild camp in Ngorongoro Reserve
* Visit to an African snake park
* Camel trip and traditional Masai village visit
* Camping overnight under Mount Kilimanjaro
* 2 nights on idyllic Indian Ocean beaches
* 2 nights in Zanzibar
16 August 2006 Nairobi - Johannesburg - London Heathrow (Arrives the next day)
After 206 days travelling around the world, we arrive back at home ready to show you the several million pictures and videos we've taken. I hope you're already excited! I know I am.
