Ater breakfast we wandered down to what had now become 'our normal shaded position; facing the beach, but I was not feeling at all well, so we went for an early brunch at the nearby Sanctuary beach front restaurant. Terry had a huge curried chicken salad in a pitta bread ( to make up for the abysmal breakfast no doubt) and I just had a tomato salad. The food was nice and fresh and the restaurant was very aptly decorated with painted driftwood pieces and items that had been washed up on the beach and decorated. We decided to return again in the next couple of days so that I could sample something a little more substantial.

At about 15:00 we returned to 4C so I could have a lie down for a couple of hours. Terry chilled on our patio area and started to plan the next leg of our journey, amongst other things. I wasn't sure what he was doing half the time.

Early evening we wandered back to the Raan restaurant where I played safe with a light fish meal and Terry had a Pad Thai. Instead of ordering a dessert, we had our Chang. We felt we were going to be able to successfully wean ourselves off the Chang by the time we had to leave Koh Lanta. We were just discussing the little Geckos that we occasionally spotted running behind pictures when all of a sudden I noticed a bloody huge rat; I don't know where he came from, somewhere behind Terry, but he ran up the wall and on to some beams overhead. Terry saw him as well and tried to gain the attention of one of the waitresses who, we believe, decided to turn a blind eye.

We decided not to eat there again!

After dinner we decided to take a slow stroll along Long Beach but, in true Downes fashion; ended up walking the entire length. As there were fairly long stretches where it was completely dark, we took our torch. We were able to identify many little sea creatures en route that we might have otherwise stood on; although they can move quite fast when they want to. I think my favourite was Herman Hermit (Crab).

Mum on

Oh I just cannot imagine seeing a rat in a restaurant, I would have screeched blue bloody murder, I'm just like my Dad he was terrified of rats, my friend Julie has a pet one, she puts it in another room when I go there. They would close the place down here if that happened. love you both .xxxx
