A week eating the few tins of beans we had in the back of our car was finally over (the food in the local shop was about 2 years out of date!) and we left Normanton! Although we broke down for a week here, it cost us $800 to get our car fixed, our tent melted.... we had a good experience living in a real outback town. We wanted to floor it out of there when we finally got our little car back on the Friday... but best not, don't want it breaking again especially as the nice mechanic (he was actually nice) informed us that.. well basically our car was a heap of shit and that it could break down (for good) at any time! Oh joy so we're traveling around Australia in a death trap. Well at least the outback was almost over with and we would have a slightly higher chance of rescue if anything did happen... so I'm sure as you can imagine our opinion of poohead (as mentioned in the Melbourne stories ) was at ultimate all time low!!!
It was a shame that Sandra and Jo had to carry on without us but we were sure to see them again the car seemed to be running OK again and we drove to Mt Garnet staying in the Innot Hot Springs campsite where we relaxed in the natural pools that evening... although 43 degree pools isn't that relaxing after 10 minutes sat in them!
