Where I stayed
yha port o call
So we have developed a little routine here in Port Douglas for our evening pleasures. First we bathe the funk away, throw on as little clothes as possible and head out( in the rain of course) to our fav watering hole where we order our local beer, carlton draught, grab a seat on the patio, bunker down for some rugby and chat up the locals. So if i am boring you dont log out because karaoke is on its way......
Little did we know that this entire time we have been sitting next door to Port douglas' very own Coyote Ugly. Which has nightly toad races and some sing song. Hell yea. So we slam our beers and head over with a quickness so ensure quality seating. With our new friends, Clay and Adam, in tow. They two boys were a prize let me tell you. So of course there has to be a competetion, I am there after all, we start our song selection. Which was such a non- issue for Kelly and I because we made a list in the auckland airport and I kept it. But of course i forgot the list so we decided to shake things up and try something from the vault- John Denver's Country road. Bad Idea. But with that being said, turns out this place loves it some Pink and Whitney Houston. Who would have thought? not us but you all know the music is in us so we danced. And danced. I dont think this is relevant to the story but Kelly needs me to add that I officially rocked australia with a solo performance. My fave Don Mcleans classic- American Pie. It had to be done. And what a supportive audience. Thank you. And goodnight............................
I am finally able to blog again after tmy devastating news that there was no scuba in my near future. I just needed a little time and I am sure Kelly told you about the voodoo doctor that crushed my dreams. BUT no man can keep me down so I took all my scuba gear ( that we have schlepped across 3 continents), got some wax ( for my ears) and set out to a lovely day at sea. And what a lovely day it was after 2 days of torrential downpour. Perfect day to don a light blue smurfette syle lycra body suit- with hood and attatched mittens. All for good reason though, because what else comes with the rainy season but killer jelly fish. So we put on our live saving aquatic wardrobe and jumped in. But kelly would like me to note that she saw the saddest sight in the world, jumping in all geared up and ready to scuba, and seeing me on top of the boat waving sadly. however kelly got her scuba certification! go kelly!! She was happy. so let us tell you a few things about thre reef. It rocks! even snorkling was amazing because the visibitlity, even after a cyclone was, incredibly clear. the coral was like nothing we had ever seen. huge and colorful and the textures were unbelievable. we saw a clam the size of a human, turtle, crazy bright fish a shark and so on. it was truly mind blowing and worth the trip across the world. wish you all were there but you werent so oh well. : ) And let us take a moment to educate you on the australian sun. there is a reason it is the skin cancer capital of the world. It doesnt f@%$(&^ around. I tan easily but i got on that boat in my normal color and walked off a different race. Bah-rown. It is a good thing kelly was in her smurf suit and under the water because her honkiness could NOT have handled it!! And since we are talking about the weather... SWAMP ASS. this is the most humid place on the face of the earth and between us we have touched most parts of this world and nothing, i mean nothing, compares to the wettness that is upon us. it is sucking the life from us but we are holding on for your entertainment. Oh! and because of the deadly stingers(jellyfish- irikanji) we cannot go to the beach and swim in the water, booooo. But dont worry we have another trip out the reef planned tomorrow where we will be taking pics of us in our full water attire which will be available for purchase upon our return.
