We got up bright and early to have our free hostel breakfast and to start the exploring. Breakfast was nothing to write home about but it was both free and filling in its copious amounts of basically a winner!

We decided to get our bearings by doing the free walking tour provided by the hostel, this was a historic tour and involved a look at the offices donated to the unions by Eva Peron, a look at one of the camps used to hold and torture military prisoners during a period of unrest a church and general information about the history of Buenos aeries! The tour was great and we learnt some pretty horrific history about the that the generation of our parents list 30,000 people who were kidnapped by the military dictators but nobody spoke of it happening in fear of bring taken themselves, the people taken included pregnant women who were killed but their babies were passed to families who supported the regime...this had left a lot of people of my generation unsure of their parents...are they actually your parents or were you given to the friends and supporters of those who killed your parents! Terrible and hard to believe it was happening as I was born!

We also found out that tango was invented in BA by the immigrants from Europe who were living in large houses with little courtyards where they would congregate and dance! Sadly our illusions were shattered when we discovered that Argentinians don't actually tango anymore and any tango done is just for the tourists!!

During the Eva Peron part of the tour Sara and I had a couple of unfortunate incidents where we broke chairs! Once in her office we sat on a bench which creaked quite badly where it had split and once when sitting in the auditorium where the perons would give we sat and posed for a picture Sara broke her chair...infront of the other 25 people on the tour...hilarious!! Eva was clearly a hero to the working class and her funeral lasted 14days! A bit gross though we found out that her body was embalmed and left for 3 years in the office building so that people could come and see her!!

The best part of the tour was certainly the fact that we met 2 lovely new friends in Lawrence and korin. They are a couple of crazy 23year olds from Derby who are travelling together and getting into mischief! We ended up spending a list afternoon drinking beer and laughing!

The evening was spent drinking even more beer in the pub below our hostel and getting friendly with some of the other travellers! Sara and I were very well behaved but did decide to live vicariously through the exploits of the kids!;)
