After departing with Quirkey in Queenstown and some dough in the casino it was time to up sticks and get back on the highway. We decided to spend a night in the lovely little lakeside town of Wanaka.
Ireland were playing a rugby league world cup game against Tonga that night so we asked around the local pubs to see if the game would be on.
We arrived down to the bar that night to watch the game but as it was the day after Labour Day there was only a few souls hangin round the bar. The game was on pretty late and most of the punters slipped away into the night leaving myself , Murph, a couple of stragglers and the 2 under-used bar staff. At about 11 and with still 30 mins to go in a very exciting game the staff told us they had to close-up. In typical New Zealand fasion though they told us to hang on while they kicked out the rest of the customers, did a bit of cleaning up and then, pint in hand, joined us for the last 15 to cheer on Ireland. This is the type of stuff we have come to expect here, people, in general, will go out of their way for you and take real pride in tourists enjoying their country.
Next day we were back on the road again, this time off to the glaciers of Fox and Franz Joseph.
