Having had to struggle to convince Murph only a few months ago in Mexico that dipping her pinky in the Pacific ocean did not guarantee instant shark bites, by the time we got to Fiji she was ready to actually go in search of the big feckers and dive into the depths to get up close and personal with the bauld sharkeys themslves.
So we heard about a dive site near Mana where you were almost guaranteed to encounter sharks of some type or other. We had seen the " I dived at the Supermarket and survived" t-shirts and decided to give it a lash.
Our buddy Rob had won a free dive in a sexual position musical staues competition and decided to accompany us.
The day itself was a little overcast which effected the visability a little but the water was still pretty clear as we hopped of the boat and into the deep depths below. We dived along the reef at a depth of around 70 feet and lo and behold we were not to be dissapointed as some reef sharks appeared of in the distance about 20 feet away. They are hard to spot as their grey skin camoflauges them quite well.
Our dive was cut a little short as one of the other divers with us on the day was a little inexperienced and sucked up too much of his oxegen too quickly on site of the sharks. This meant we had to surface after about 35 minutes rather than 45. Still, Murph got to see 5 sharks although I only spotted 2 as I was struggling with my wonky goggles.
We had rented the dive camera for the day which was cool although the quality of the images was a little rough and it was'nt easy lining up photos while trying to remember to breath , equalise and not get eaten by sharks.

Travellers Tips
It cost us 99 FJD for 1 tank with our hostel's dive shop, think this is pretty standard for Fiji.
Don't bother renting their underwater camera, it doesn't have a special underwater setting so pics taken at depth were crap in quality and colour as you can probably see for yourself.
