After our day in the snow we decided to stay around Carlisle in pennyslvannia. John, mel's uncle drove us around for the day in his "truck" I hate to admit it and I don't care what it does to the environment but I LIKED it! So first place of interest was the town of Hershey, famous for chocolate and particularly hershey kisses. The top of all their street lights are alternately unwrapped and wrapped kisses (photo will be forthcoming later) we visited chocolate world and went on a very informative ride taking us through the process of making chocolate all to the hersheys theme music at the end we got some free chocolate so decided we hadn't learnt enough and needed to go on the ride again.... And I bought some chocolate to bring back for people. From Hershey we went in search of the Amish - saw buggies and horses, very flash enclosed buggies! The houses were really easy to spot, no power lines in, clothes drying outside (something not seen elsewhere in the us) and very very neat and well ordered gardens. We stopped at a little town called intercourse, or the big I for those who think intercourse is a bad word. I find the town called blueballs more amusing, or the fact bird in the hand is close by, those funny Amish! From there We went to a little tourist village and tasted our way through some homemade relishes, jams, salsa etc... Then to a family restaurant called good 'n' plenty which is based on the Amish principles. We were served the following food to choose from apple butter, whipped butter, cottage cheese, bread, beef salad (looked like tuna), pepper slaw, apple sauce, fried chicken, roast beef, sausage, mashed potato, corn, gravy, egg noodle (buttered), cheesecake, shoo fly pie, pumpkin pie and ice cream (I did not eat all of this) after rolling out of lunch we finished the day by outlet shopping in reading. 2 pairs of pants, and a pair of shoes later we headed back to johnnies for a well earned rest!
