If you've ever been strapped for cash, a college student (redundant), a fan of Macklemore, or a hipster who is "too cool" for brands, then you have discovered the joys of thrift store shopping. Sifting through tons of used clothes only to find that sweet flannel, ironic t-shirt, or ridiculous Christmas sweater makes you feel like a million bucks.  Now, imagine, if you will, living in a place where EVERY clothing store is a thrift store.  A place where these stores are located every 50 feet along the road, and each one has thrift from about a dozen different countries.  Thrift shop heaven?  No.  It’s Ambovombe, Madagascar, and you’ve just discovered Frippe.

I have found t-shirts from Alaska, windbreakers whose clashing neon motif would make my grandmother proud, and denim EVERYTHING.  The bonus: it all costs about one US buck.  Maybe it says something about the activity level of Ambovombe, but the entertainment value of fripping is priceless.  Go to a “third world country” (hate that phrase), poke around for about a minute, and you’re guaranteed to find a shirt from your alma mater, state, or favorite sports team’s failed championship bid.  Want a fake fur coat?  There’s thousands.  Want to buy a snowsuit in a country where the annual snowfall is somewhere in the 0 inch range?  Do it.  Fripping is a blast, and it also gives you the freedom to dress like a 3 year old who is told, “dress yourself today, sweetie.”  One of life’s little joys.
