This is Talake. He is the son of one of the workers at the family's property who I live with.  He is never without a smile, and he is always inquisitive and loving life.  He finds joy in every little detail of the world around him.  Talake has also been deaf since birth.  This has made things even more difficult for the child of an impoverished family in one of the poorest countries in the world.  Having a physical handicap makes him a target for ridicule from other children.  They mock the tones he emits in place of words and pick on him.  From what I see, though, none of this gets him down.

Talake has been a great gift to me and my life here.  Whenever I see him, he is always smiling at me, always interested in what I’m doing.  He wanders over to my house almost every day, and he loves to just point at the pictures on my wall, pick up my guitar and pretend to play, and smile and smile.  He radiates pure joy.  He’s a cool kid, and he’s been an inspiration to me.  Everyday, he overcomes more than I can imagine.  He continues to give me energy and hope when I am going through my seemingly insignificant challenges.

What an amazing kid and I am sure you are a blessing to him. You have been having so many unbelievable experiences--many difficult but so life changing. I love reading your blogs! So glad your folks were able to experience a bit of what your life is like over there.
