We got on another local bus, this time with added karaoke all the way and strange/curious fellow passengers, including an elderly woman (not Heli) who could not take her eyes off Luke for a good couple of hours. The direct bus does this journey in about 4-5 hours, ours took 8 hrs. The extra time was due to the ridiculous number of stops along the way, including one to allow the bus conductor to go shopping for a dress (even more annoyingly, after a good 15 minutes of browsing she did not even buy anything!).
As it was pretty late when we got to town, we took the first available room we could find, which we came to regret later. The sound of metal banging in the wind outside kept us awake most of the night, coupled with the sound of constant running water coming from somewhere and room temperature of about +40C. We took the rather easy decision to find a new place first thing on Wednesday and we are now in far superior lodgings.
We sorted out our travel for the next few days - we are going to Champasak tomorrow and on Saturday to Si Phan Don, also known as the 4,000 islands further down south.
Stay tuned.
P.S. We were very jealous to learn that some of you had snow recently...we just keep getting this sunshine stuff :)
