We are now in Australia and are working our way down the East Coast quite quickly. We are spending just a couple of days at each stop, so the entries for Australia are likely to be short and sweet.

Our flight from Fiji to Cairns involved a change of planes at Sydney and we very nearly missed our connecting flight! Our bags were the last to arrive and it took us ages to get through customs, we were literally running to our gate, with seconds to spare (just like the movies). We made it, just, and arrived to Cairns safely.

We went white water rafting from Cairns, which was brilliant. Most of the rafting tours involve being in a large 8 person boat with a professional guide, however the trip that we did was made up of a number of 2 person rafts with no professional help, just the 2 of us in a raft, thrown in at the deep end!

We began the day with a rainforest trek (had to watch out for stinging trees which were everywhere!) And we had to carry all the equiment with us (inflatable rafts included!) When we got to the start of the rapids we had a little practice in the rafts in the calmer water, but then we had to head downstream to the real rapids. Its was quite hard to negotiate all the twists and turns but was a lot of fun, except for when we fell in!! As the day progressed, we moved on to harder and faster rapids and eventually were faced with going down a waterfall. We failed miserably and both fell in!

The next day we spent some time in the town which has a lagoon, port and esplanade. We got an early night as we had to be up early to catch our first Oz Experience bus which was going to take us down the east coast.
