So after the 10 hour flight we then has a FIVE hour boat journey to get out to one of the most remote islands in the world - coral view. Our big boat was met by a smaller boat and we had to jump from one to the other, then wade through to the shore where the fijians were waiting for us and singing a welcome song. We were shown to our beach hut which was really nice and just a few metres from the sea. We lazed in the hammocks and on the beach during the afternoon and in the evening sampled the fijian beer, cocktails and food, whilst enjoing their entertainment. We were taught a few fijian dances (one of them was just the conga though!) We were on coral view for two nights, and made some good friends there who we spent the rest of the week with as they were doing the same tour. The next day we went for a walk to the summit of the island where the views were amazing. We also did some snorkelling and got to see lots of exotic fish, coral, and they even have cages underwater which have clams in and its like an underwater museum.
Next up was Manta Ray Island which was just as beautiful as Coral View and the food even better! Our time in Fiji pretty much consisted of relaxing on the beach during the day, doing some snorkelling and then drinking during the night, not a bad life! The Fijians from a local village came to the resort for the evening to demonstrate some traditional war dances and they were all good fun and really welcoming to backpackers.
On our third island, (Kuata) in the evening we got to experience a Cava ceremony. Its the traditional fijian drink, and it tastes and looks like muddy water and makes your toungue go numb! We had a good time sitting and talking to the fijians under the moonlight and they even bought the guitar out and sung us some songs! Whilst on Kuata we also got to visit the local village to see the way they live. Some of the women showed us how to weave our own bracelets out of two banana leaves and we got to visit the church and see their homes.
The last island we visited was Bounty Island (where celebrity love island was filmed). We decided to have a go at fishing, which was fun but neither of us managed to catch any fish, just coral. It looks like we were leaving Fiji at just the right time, we had a week of brilliant weather and a storm was looming as we boarded our final boat to leave the islands - result!
