Finally, 3 days after setting off, we got to Samui at about lunchtime to find the kids eating lunch at the bungalow restaurant - they had just woken, lucky them! We stayed in Mae Nam in the north which is a very beautiful, quite relaxing beach. Our bungalow walked right onto the beach, well were actually built on the beach - our little garden was filled with palm trees, so cool! Unfortunately the first day was a bit of a wash-out as it rained pretty torrentially the rest of the day so we couldn't do to much.

The following day was just what we had hoped for: clear blue skies, calm seas and scorching sun. We hired 2 scooters, jumped on and set off for a tour of the island - we visited the Big Buddha in the north, had some ridiculously cheap local thai food for lunch...about 1 a meal and then stopped off in Chaweng beach for a swim and some shopping. It was just what we expected...crowded, built up and chavvy! Any town with 2 McDonalds', a Subway and 2 Starbucks is just a shame! The beach was crowded full of over tattooed and over bronzed (even compared to pale me) posers.

So after a quick dip and some ball we were on our way on our scooterinis! We got a little lost in Samui land on the east coast and Justin & Dani managed to get a flat tyre, hahaha- luckily there was a mechanic 500m up the road who changed the tyre in 5 minutes for 3...very lucky and an absolute bargain! We zoomed off trying to get to Nathon (not pronounced 'Nay-thin' but 'Na-ton' as we learned when we stopped to ask for directions!) by sunset which we just about made, ending up at the aptly named Sunset Restaurant for some watermelon shakes and an early dinner, we figure if we eat dinner early enough it gives you time to fit in a second Thai dinner later on...a cunning plan- can't get enough if this delish food!

After a quick trip home for the girls to put on some warmer clothes? we headed off to the Fisherman's Village in Bophut for some shopping and snacking. It was a bit like a mini Phi Phi, lots of stalls and vendors. Managed to fit in a cup of sweetcorn, some spring rolls, fried potatoes on a stick (GREAT IDEA) and thai fish cakes (bad idea)...oh and Nutella and banana crepes of course, no trip to Asia is complete without a few crepes!
