06/07/10-7/06/10        Laos/ Hanoi, Vietnam
Got a 33 hour bus from Laos to Hanoi, Vietnam! It was a very big culture shock on the bus! There was 3 couples of westerners and the viernammese people going back over to Hanoi were quite rude to us!
We had a few stops on the way where we could get food.. The locals got it included in the trip and we had to pay for it and wasn't that good but it was OK because we had lots of bread and cheese on the bus!
Then we took our valium to help us sleep on the bus and the bus was at the border crossing by 1am and waited till 8am for it to open ( I don’t understand why the bus just didn’t leave later and get there for 7am)
We arrived in Hanoi and it was pouring down with rain and had lots of taxi drivers shouting at us to get in their taxi! We eventually agreed a price with 2 taxis to take us all to the main area where backpackers stayed at a place called --------! The taxi drivers lied about the price and started yelling at us really aggressively for more money which we had to pay eventually!
It was a really nice hotel about 16 dollars a night for a double room with Aircon! The best thing the how friendly the men running the hotel were, they always laughed and smiled!
The doors shut down at about 10pm so the shutters are down but you just ring the door bell and there is a man asleep on a mattress in reception who will let you in!
Then we went out to find a pub to go to at about 11pm but only a couple little ones were open in the main street which were just about to close!
We asked a few taxi drivers and eventually one agreed to take us to a club and he took us to this bridge where there is a boat at the end which has a bar inside and a dance floor! It was all Vietnamese people in there and really good fun dancing with them! It was mostly the blokes dancing with the 3 girls i was travelling with and the Vietnamese girls all moved from the dance floor looking annoyed at them!
We stayed for an hour then went back!

8-6-10  Hanoi, Vietnam
We got up and went to a temple which is in the middle of the lake across a bridge! The lake is called Hoan Kiem Lake and the temple is called Ngoc Son Temple (Jade Mountain Temple). This was really cool temple to see and i light insense while i was in there and bowed down in front of the buddah! They encourage a donation though to do this! The lake and the temple has a really good legend behind it! Then we went to one of the restaurants overlooking the roundabout which is just north of the lake. The traffic on this roundabout is crazy!! You need your witts about you to cross as it is very busy but even when there is traffic coming at you, just have to walk out and keep walking at a steady pace! They normally swerve around you its the only way to cross a road really :S! Had beef noodle soup in the restaurant which is amazing!
We booked our tour for Halong bay at one of the travel agents can't remember the name though! Lonley planet had recommend that if you want a bit of quaility to book a dealux tour which set us back about 90 USD for 3 days and 2 night!
That night we went to the backpackers and they took us to an irish bar which was extreamly boring! Then someone reccomended a place called hare of the dog, which has a lock in after the curfew! We were in there untill about 3:30am!

9-6-10  Hanoi/ Halong Bay, Vietnam
After having a late night and only a few hours sleep got up at 7am for our trip to Halong Bay.The bus took about 3-4 hours to get to the port! The boat was really nice. We had really nice rooms and a good relaxed atmosphere! They served us lunch which was lots of seafood and a table full of food for each table with lots left over! The scenery was amazing all the rock formations sticking out of the water its hard to explain until you have seen it! We then went to this really big cave and walked through there which was really good! Then we went to the view point over the bay the picture which you have on most your postcards of it! It was an amazing view!!! Then we went back to the boat and kayaked around the bay! There was a floating village that people actually lived in that you could kayak through and a floating bar with lots fish areas with these massive fish in! You could also Kayak through the caves! This was so relaxing i felt so calm and relaxed doing this because it was so beautiful!
Then when we got back to the boat we achored down where we would stay for the night and then we all were jumping off the top of the boat while the sun was setting!
Then that evening another table full of amazing food mostly fish once again which i loved!
10/6/10 Halong bay (Cat bay island), Vietnam
We got the boat to the national park and did a trek up through the jungle( Quite slippery and lots steps and ladders to climb) to a view point over the jungle which was amazing! It was so hot and sweaty though which did make it a bit uncomfortable! Coming back down the steps was actually harder than going up! I wasn’t use to using the back leg muscles so much and my legs were shaking!
Then the boat took us to Cat Bay island! We got booked into our hotel which was amazing like 5 star to us with a nice bathroom and aircon and TV with a music channel! We went to a bar for a drink and this women running it didn’t speak any English! We tried to explain that we wanted a lemon shake but didn’t have it on the menu so pointed at another shake then the lemon juice trying to explain! We ended up with both drinks!
Then that night we after another amazing meal, we started drinking some cheap vodka in the room! We got quite drunk then went and got motorbike taxis to take us to a club! Then one of the girl went missing so we came back and me and a Italian bloke took one of the bikes to look for her! We got back to the hotel and the taxis were demanding money off us which we didnt pay because they had lost one of the girls! We went upstairs and she was in the room crying the taxi driver had tried to rape her!
Me and another girl went to confront the taxi driver she slapped him and he ran away! Then i went to confront him on my own and he ran up the road and i chased him, he ended up jumping on the back of someones motorbike! I then had 3 dogs start chasing me and biting me, one managed to bit my leg but i got away! The hotel put alcohol on my leg!

11/06/10 Halong Bay/ Hanoi, Vietnam
The boat took us back to the mainland then to a really nice restaurant and had a big feast! Then got the bus back to Hanoi! I went to find a hospital as i was worried about rabies! I found an international hospital (SOS Hospital) with european doctors! It cost me 100 dollars for a consultation then about 50 for the injections! I had to get one more where ever i was in the next few days!
That night we went to a big mall shopping and then to the cinema to watch sex in the city!

12/06/10 Hanoi,Danang,Hoi An, Vietnam
We got a flight from Hanoi to Danang with jetstar, then a taxi from there to Hoi An!
We booked into a 4 bed room between us which was about 16 dollars and had a swimming pool!
That night we went to a bar which took us to a beach bar club on the night. We wanted to dance however the world cup was on at the time and there was a big football screen and everyone was watching that till 4am! They sold big buckets of alcohol which were really nice and about 4 pounds per bucket!

13/06/10    Hoi An, Vietnam

There is lots and lot of suit and dress shops to choose from to get stuff tailor made! Our hostel had a book with good place and bad places to go to! We went to a shop called Peace! Address: 89A Tran Hung Dao St, Hoi An – Quang Nam – Vietnam!! Phone number : (84) 510917898   Email:
I choose a suit I like from a catalogue and then got measured up and choose my material to get it tailor made.
Then after that I we went to the beach which is a really nice beach with restaurants along it! We got motorbike taxis there and you need to barter a price with them!! You get hassled while on the beach by people selling ‘’icecream’’ then when you say no they turn the sign around and try and sell you pornography!
Later on that night we walked around the river which has got lots and lots of amazing restaurants and good local street food! There is also lots of lantern shops everywhere.. Its really good to walk around at night is really pretty and lit up!
14/06/10   Hoi An, Vietnam
Today we went and tried our suits on which fitted perfectly and was really nice. Then I went to the hospital which was very basic to get my 2nd injection I had to have because of the dog bite! Then I went to relax on the beach for the rest of the day and also walked up the beach for about 4 KM!

15/06/10    Hoi An, Vietnam
Today I just had a day of sorting stuff out I created a CD for all my photos in a computer shop and sent those and my suit home which cost me about 30 GBP! Then I had a swim in the hostels pool for an hour and then we had a bus going to Nha Trang at 6pm which was an overnight bus! It was a bit narrow seats but comfortable enough to sleep but did have some valium to help me sleep!

16/06/10  Nha Trang, Vietnam
We arrived in Nha Trang at 5am and these other backpackers recommended a hostel to stay at called Backpackers, House Hostel. We checked in and they actually had beds for us at 5am!! Then I went into my dorm which was a 4 bed dorm but you had to walk through a 6 bed dorm to get in there! It was one 6 bed dorm with 2 4 beds on either side with one bathroom between everyone! In my dorm was a girl who I had met in Thailand on a tour which was really funny bumping into her considering I met her thousands of KM away!
We met a really good group of people got up at mid-day and went to the beach which was really nice but was a lot more touristy than a lot places we had gone to!
With our hostel you get a free bucket when you order a meal at a restaurant called Green Apple. A big group of us went there for dinner then we went to a bar called WHY NOT BAR which is very popular and lively and make sure you get a stamp when you leave so you can get back in later.

17/06/10    Nha Trang, Vietnam
Today we hired motorbike which cost 2 GBP for the whole day! I rode on the back of a friends motor bike and he drove crazy lol! The traffic is so busy going out of town and you got to have your witts about you! We were going to the waterfalls and one of the people we were with had been there a while and knew the way otherwise it would be difficult to find. We drove along the coast and then stopped at a restaurant on the waterfront which was really nice food. Then we went down a dirt road and arrived at the waterfalls. You have to climb over lots of rocks and one of the women there held my friends hand the whole way to show us the way and to make sure she didn’t fall over! The water falls we OK some of the men jumped in from up high which I didn’t have the guts to do.. Then in the water you have fish bite at your feet which feels really weird.
That night when we got back we went to Why not bar and then to Sailors club which is on the beach.

18/06/10   Nha Trang, Vietnam
Today we hired out motorbikes again and went to the mud baths. It was pack mostly with locals. First we had the mud bath in our own bath but lots near each other. You spend about 20 mins in the mud bath. Then you go to the big shower where you shower with about 30 other people to wash the mud off! Then you walk through the spring water showers which you walk in between 2 walls and water squirts quite powerfully out of each wall… Then you go into the hot water spring spa which you spend about 30 mins and but is very hot! Then you go under a spring waterfall and then into the warm swimming pool and then into the cold swimming pool (which was actually warm). It was very ‘’interesting’’ but I did feel really clean and refreshed afterwards!
That night we went to a bar to watch the football and I feel asleep on the table :/!

19/06/10   Nha Trang, Vietnam
Today we just spent the day relaxing by a pool on the beach. Then on Saturday night there is a massive beach party at sailors club on the beach so we went there and got very drunk!

20/06/10-21/06/10 Nha Trang, Vietnam
Just spent the last couple of days relaxing on the beach. On the last day our hostel had Hammocks and Kerry and I were just sleeping in them all afternoon laughing about stuff before our bus got there!
We then got the bus which would take us to Mui’ne that evening!

22/06/10  Mui’ne, Vietnam
We arrived to Mui’ne at 1:30am and there was no hotels open hardly all the gates was closed!! This area was really quiet although they did have a 24 hour bar/restaurant but that was the only place open. We walked past one guest house and there was people waiting outside to get a bus and told us just to go in there and knock on the door. The women got woken up by us then got up and made up a room for us and got me to help her do it too! Then we slept till about 10am and then hired motorbikes. I actually drove myself this time because I didn’t have a choice.. We drove for about an hour to the sand dunes! We walked up the sand dunes and you get very pestered by lots of kids trying to sell you a slide down the sand dunes on a plastic sheet! 2 of us bought one and it was ok but not that exciting! Then when the kids realized we weren’t buying any more they all started annoying us and trying to pull down our pants.
That night we went to the 24 hour Irish bar and had a few drinks and watched top gear on the TV where they drove through Vietnam on motorbikes!

23/06/10  Mui’ne, Saigon(Hoi Chi Minh city), Vietnam
Had a bit of a panic because 2 people we were travelling with nearly missed the bus but got there just on time!
It took about 6 hours to get to Saigon (Hoi Chi Minh city) and we booked into a 5 bed room between us. It was very busy and hectic city.
We went to a night club called Apocalypse now which was full of wealthy Vietnamese people and very expensive. We ended up chatting to a group of Vietnamese people and they were letting us have some of their whiskey.

#24/06/10 Saigon (Hoi Chi Minh City), Vietnam
We had planned to go and shoot guns down a tunnel today but were too late. We went to the market which was massive and I bought some chop sticks and tin tin tin Vietnam t-shirt.
Then that evening we all went to the cinema and then to play bowling.

25/06/10 Saigon(Hoi Chi Minh city), Vietnam – Bus to Cambodia
We left quite early to get the bus to Cambodia and said goodbye to Alex who we had been with since Nha Trang! When we were leaving I was watching the Tai Chi in the park which made my day because I love watching groups doing Tai Chi!
