Going to Kaghan valley was a REAL adventure!
I was not well informed and ended up in the valley most affected by the earthquake of December 2005. I went on an incredible journey on a road built on the side slopes of very big mountains. The route included over 40 landslides with huge loose rocks about to roll down the hills, we also went through 4 or five small glaciers, but the real thrill (or danger) was going over a landslide after our overcrowded van had to turn back due to a major road block. The only way I could go on was to get my backpack and walk over the landslide and try to get another transport on the other side. I have never done anything as dangerous as crossing over this VERY steep slope full of loose stone rolling down a cliff about 50 metres high. With the help of God and a kind soul who carried my big bag for the most dangerous bit of the hike I made it to the other side. By the time I set foot on the road again my legs were shaking for the huge physical effort and concentration necessary to cross over the blocked road. I only made it because I thought I had to, did not look down and had the precious help of a local volunteer.
My destination was lovely Naran, where I stayed for a few days and recovered from the tiring and stressful journey from Nathiagali. Saiful Mulk lake and Lalazar Plateau are beautiful sites, plus I benefited from the difficulties to access Naran and could explore the region with very few tourists around.
