The second day was the 'people'-day. We got a nice tip from a biker to
go look at a mountain climbing competition on very very veeeerrrrry
steep mountains (our perspective) and were invited to join a wedding
party. It started with the invitation for a small beer, but included
learning how to eat a piece of meat with your fork (of course not
cutting it like I did, breaking one fork in 4 attempts), small glasses
of Raki to be drunk (we only sipped them, we still wanted to ride our
bikes) and some dancing (luckily I had gathered some experience in a
Moroccan youth center some years ago)
at where the music was coming from) and very inviting. Of course we also
exchanged telephone numbers and we could even have stayed to sleep at
someone's place. But no, that seemed too much. By the way: after I had
looked at our bikes (standing outside unguarded) a few times, I was told
that they were safe. The whole family was responsible for our safety.
And it worked.
That afternoon we still managed some more kilometers
and found a silent spot for a good sleep. This prepared us for a steep
climbing of (again) the Balkan Mountains, now going from North to South
again. It showed us how different both sides can be. One side was just
end of the winter, the other, south, side was full spring. Especially
the descend through the spring-valley was beautiful. Warm and sunny,
very green, lots of water, lots of curves, views from different heights,
and the only thing to do is to look around, look for the holes in the
road and do some braking.
