Where I stayed
Bruce and Elspeth's House
The next day we drove down to visit my Great Aunty Pat (my Grandma's older sister) and her new husband Rob. The drive took a couple of hours, but it was really nice to visit Aunty Pat. We went out for lunch at the local pub which was quite nice, and after that we drove back to Menstrie. When we got back to Menstrie, Elspeth cooked another AMAZING dinner, and then we watched some movies and tv before heading to bed.
The next day Elspeth was doing her St Andrews First Aid at a Dirtbike/Motorbike competition nearby, so (after a massive sleep-in!) Bruce and I drove out to see her and watch some of the motor bike racing. Elspeth told us that in the morning one guy had broken his leg, and then while we were watching (in the last race of the day) a guy broke his knee! Bruce and I watched Elspeth and the other First-Aiders help him, while an Ambulance came. It was pretty exciting. Meanwhile they cancelled the race and packed up the competition (because it was the last race anyway). After that we went back to the house and had a relaxing night watching movies (there was also another awesome dinner involved!).
The next day we drove to Glasgow because I've never been there before. Unfortunately it was raining pretty heavily, so we just went shopping! We split up from Bruce, and while in a department store Elspeth and I got roped into doing a tour around a spa that had just opened up in the store! It included free champagne and we got to sit in their massage chair! We weren't complaining! Then we met back up with Bruce in a music store. When we were in the music store, there was a song playing and Elspeth started to say how it sounded like Katy Perry or Lily Allen. I was pretty impressed by this alone (that she knew who those artists were!) and then we saw a poster of Eminem and she said she didn't like him because he is so rude, and I said that I don't like him either, and then she said how she really liked Katy Perry and Lily Allen though, and even started to say how nice they were, etc. At this point I thought it was a bit strange that she was talking like she knew them, and then I remembered that she'd said that she had worked at Tea in the Park (a British Music Festival) doing her St Andrews First Aid, and I said "Hang on, have you actually met them?!" and she said "Oh yes, they are so nice. Katy was so nervous before she went on the stage!" hahaha just causally. It turns out she was working on the main stage at the last Tea in the Park festival and she met all the big artists who were playing there! Anyway after all that, we headed back to Menstrie and then Elspeth and I watched The Sound of Music (much to Bruce's dislike) because I mentioned that I hadn't seen it before!
Today was my last day with Bruce and Elspeth. I was having heaps of fun with them, so we decided not to go to Edinburgh (where I was going next) until late afternoon. Bruce was really keen to take me for a walk up a hill just behind their house before I left, but early in the morning it was raining, so instead Elspeth showed me how to make Tablet (this amazing slice thing which is really, really bad for you, but so incredibly delicious!). By the time we'd finished doing that, the weather had cleared up so Bruce and I drove to the bottom of the hill and then walked up. It was pretty steep, so it was nice to have a bit of exercise!!! It was all so green, and the view over Scotland was amazing. When we got to the top it was SO windy! I don't think I've ever been in so much wind before (even with all the sailing!). It was so hard to even stand up! We got to the top and threw some rocks into a bin that is at the top, because it is goodluck. Supposedly these bins are on the top of lots of hills across Scotland, and they all line up so theoretically you should be able to see all of them lined up when you are at the top, but I couldn't see any because it was a bit cloudy. Bruce and I then climbed back down the hill, which was significantly quicker than walking up it! We drove back to the house, where Elspeth had finished cooking the tablet, and had made up a box of tablet and shortbread for me to take with me for the rest of my travels! So good! I then packed up my bag, and we began to driving to Edinburgh, where Bruce and Elspeth would leave me to keep going on my travels. It was sad to say goodbye to them and give up the luxuries of a bed, tv, amazing food and company, but it had to be done!
