Where I stayed
A bus

it was such a shame to leave paradise. ie our rafthouse with our lovely floor matresses, but to get up north to Chang Mai, our next stop, we had to get an awful bus ride-13 hours, from Bangkok. I really didnt like Bangkok. it was ever so claustrophobic and definately tourist orientated...everywhere you hear the croak of frogs. wooden ones, sold by toothless old ladies. they come up to you and brandish the amphibian under your nose, and look slightly disappointed as you go 'no, no thankyou'.
so from kanchanaburi we got to bangkok, and then onto a bus full of other travellers on their way to the quieter chang mai city. we shotgunned the back seat (just like school trip times). However this was a massive mistake, the seats didnt recline and the air con was right above our heads! brilliant. the only saving grace was a drunen Irishman attempting to share his 'Bucket' of mixed alochol with everyone...we had a chuckle as he thought Hannah was Argentinian! and then Irish! he banged his head about 5 times as the bus swerved around and people looked pained as he almost emptied his alk on their laps...however, maybe he was cleverer than us all. about an hour in he passed out. lucky bum. we arrived in Chang Mai at about 7 am. lovely.
ps. to anyone mildly or majorly concerned about my reference to brushing my teeth in the river, have no fear, we merely spat.
pps. to all of those who think that is environmentally wrong. i dont care. we didnt have a bathroom.
