So we left the smelly city of Bangkok, which was already starting to stress me out..all in your face with dodgy deals on tuktuks and random pieces of meat on sticks being waved in your face (we are planning on trying some of that sometime...saw some yummy fried bugs in bags the otherday..)We left in a minibus which drove us all the way to Kanchanaburi (repeat x3 when drunk- an amusing game). This place is where the Bridge over the River Kwai is...built during WW2 as part of the death railway, by prisoners of war- death because they estimated it would take 5 years, but the prisoners were given 16 months to do it. we got offloaded in a carpark and were already wondering where we were gonna stay when a man came and asked if we wanted to look a rafthous- HELL YES! went down some steps and onto the most perfectly kept lawn with tropical flower bushes everywhere...and a koi pond. we got the best rafthouse, basic-ie 1 double matress on the floor- but the view was incredible, we could see the bridge in all of its glory, and could dangle our feet in the river. nice! a funny guy who looked like a caveman with wack black fluffy hair and tiny black swim shorts on played manu chau. what more could we want? oh yeah. a pervy shower, strategically placed next to the urinals. with a below headfhight wall between the two. noice. went to see the bridge that afternoon and became a tourist attraction ourselves, all pastey and tall. about 15 thai women in matching pink polos took photos of and with us for a good 10 minutes..felt a bit odd considering the importance of the history of the bridge. what with deaths and all. Han and i ate our first coconut. then epilated our legs. communally. met a guy called tony in the bar and had a few drinks, talking mainly about Bristol and how wonderful it was. i think he thought we were odd, and was only nice as he was a bit pissed. the next day he ignored us. oh dear. we ate in a posh restaurant that night and our meal and drinks still came to less than a fiver/ buddha must have been looking down on us as none of us fell of the walkway to the guesthouse, despite the beers we had had. we brushed our teeth in the river and went to sleep with the gntle rocking...only to be woken at 7am by some hysterical twitterings of all the birds that were residing in the rafters. great. i had a perv shower to clean off all the stinking toxic mozzie repellant that didnt work. WHATS THE POINT?? but noone was around so it wasnt too bad. except for some giant ants and a centipede that took a quick peek. creeps.HA.. pun! sorry.
went back to the hut to find a disco barge of elderly thai women drifting by. got han and hol up and we waved. they started to take pictures. it was hillarious. the barge then turned round for more photo opportunities, which was nice for us. we had a little dance whihc seemed to be the funniest thing most of them had ever seen. 3 white girls, 1 in bikini, 2 in pyjjamas dancing on a rafthouse at 7:30 am. made my day. maybe we scarred them?
we bummed around in the sun trying to catch up with the infernal journal, named the dogs at the guesthouse with amusing yet unwriteable names- and left to go back to the bustle hustle of bangkok..ready for the 12hour coach journey up north to chang mai, where we will ride elephants and trek and cook and dance and prance in the sun.
until then much love to allxxxxxx
