Sun (12th) We left Tom Price at 7am again and after an hour arrived at Karijini National Park where we went for a trek down into the gorge. This was unusually green as we were seeing it in the wet season. Unfortunately, this also meant that the normally clear pools were now a muddy brown colour. It didn't stop me from going for a swim in one of the pools though - I was sweating my pants off. We must have spent 2-3 hours here and then set off for South Hedland. Not the best of places - an industrial town from where all the iron ore gets shipped to Asia. The dregs of society seem to live here and apparently it has the highest murder and rape rates per capita here than anywhere else in Oz. Our hostel was surrounded by barbed wire and suffice to say we weren't allowed out after dark. Another quiet night then.
