Tues (10th) I had a hell of a long journey travelling to Whitianga on the Coromandal today. Left at 10am and didn't get in till gone 4:30pm. So that night I was pretty tired and just hung around the hostel. A cute Japanese girl I happened to be on the bus with was hovering around me all evening until she finally worked up the courage to ask me "Do you know David Beckham?" I wish I'd lied as her face fell dramatically and she looked utterly disappointed when I said I'd never met him!

Weds (11th) I booked myself on a trip around the coast today which was really good, even if the people on it weren't the most chatty I've met. First off was Hot Water Beach, where the idea is to dig yourself a hole in the sand at low tide and, due to a thermal spring which runs into the sea, the hole will fill up with hot water. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts I managed to find a spot where the spring was flowing and the water did indeed become rather hot - too hot really, as it was already a scorcher of a day. But had a lot of fun with that. We then drove on the a place where we could walk along the cliff tops and then down onto a beach know as Cathedral Cove due to its limestone formations. This was a really pretty area and the water was crystal clear. Afterwards we stopped at a number of other beaches, all with pale sand and lovely clear water and walked along more coastal paths. Then stopped at a 'winery' on the way home. Hmm... the couple of wines he had on offer were not to my tasting and his main business seemed to be in liquoirs which he was making us try. They were thoroughly disgusting! All in all though, I had a lovely day and was looking forward to seeing my folks...
