Thurs (5th) I went to Wai-O-Tapu park, which is supposed to be the best of the lot and met Scottish girl who was on my bus who I got chatting to. The park was pretty impressive although the same can't be said for the famous gyser there - they put washing powder down the hole every morning at 10am in order to make the fountain regular, but it just looked really fake. However the rest of the park was great with loads of colourful pools from the mineral deposits, most notably Champange Pools (see the pics)
. That night was set to be my last out with Liz - she was heading up to Auckland for a couple of nights before heading to Fiji and then home, whereas I was going to head back down to Taupo and try my luck there again. So, off I pop that evening to the ATM in order to get sufficient funds out for the night ahead, and the cheeky thing on goes and eats my card. Before I'd even had a chance to enter my pin number, no less. Oooh, I was miffed. So, I called the emergency number on the machine, but the lady basically said there was nothing I could do till the bank opened in the morning. I explained that I was leaving on a bus booked before 9am and she reckoned that I would be able to get the card couriered over to Taupo. Grand. Had a lovely last night with Liz putting the world to rights and discussing our possible futures.
Weds (4th) Jeez, I was up soo early this morning - my bus left at 5:15am. It was completely pointless getting up so early as it only mad me feel rubbish, so I slept until midday, when liz arrived off the Kiwi Experience. We walked to the park and pottered about a bit but generally didn't do much apart form figure out which thermal parks to visit. I had a quiet one that night as Liz and Em went to a Mauri night which they both enjoyed, but which I wasn't very keen on seeing.
