Sat (New Years Eve) This morning we checked out of the dingy hostel we were staying at and into the Base backbackers were the guys were in the centre of town
. Waiting for a text from Liz to Em, we went to the museum with the guys for a quick wandered around. Then we took the tram up hill to meet liz which was supposed to be one of the 'must-do's' in Wellington. This was completely worthless and I recommend anyone who goes should just walk as it only took about 3 mins by tram. Anyway, we all walked down and then along the sea front to the beach where we sunbathed and chatted for a bit, but I didn't have my bikini on so left after about an hour. That night Em and I joined the guys down in the basement bar of our hostel for a few cheap drinks before heading off into town. Everywhere seemed surprisingly quiet. It was 9pm when we entered one bar, and we were the ony ones in there. Moving on, I managed to convince Duncan and Chris to join my on the reverse bungy which we had spied the previous day. I'm sure you guys have seen one of these before, it's basically a capsule you sit in that it attached to bungy ropes and then catapults you up into the air and you bounce up and down a couple of times whilst it's spinning around. I managed to get a 2nd ride for free as the local tv crew had arrived and wanted film people in it shouting out Happy New Year. I was only too happy to oblige. After that, we headed on to the Sports Cafe which we had found the previous night and proved to be a great place. Truely cheesy music and a good atmosphere. At this point we still hadn't heard much from Liz - we were supposed to be meeting her and her friends in a swanky bar further along the road but they still hadn't left the house yet
. In the end, Liz turned up at around 11pm and said they weren't going to the other bar afterall (which I was quite pleased about) and we all managed to bring the New Year's in together. Generally had a great night.
Sun (New Years Day 2006) Oooh, I slept a lot today. Really had a rather unproductive day. Think the highlight was going out to the cinema to watch 'The World's Fastest Indian' (pretty good) at the cinema with Duncan and Chris.
Mon (2nd) Was a foul day weather-wise. From about 5am we could hear the wind howling along the street, which is notorious in Wellington. However, at around 8:30am the window next to me smashed due to the winds, with shards of glass flying everywhere. Thankfully, the girl whose bed was underneath the window was in the shower at the time or I dread to think what could have happened.
Fri (30th) Arriving in Wellington, I left the guys and checked in where Emily was staying, near the flat Liz's mate lived in. I saw her briefly and went over with her to see Liz before heading out to meet the guys for Dominoes (which the pansies struggled with - I showed them how it was done!). Mmm, that was good. We then wandered around various bars that night trying to find a suitable establishment for the following nights jovalities (i.e. free entry, no dress code and cheap drinks) before I headed off to meet up with Liz and Em in a bar on the other side of town. Had an annoying trek through the city getting thoroughly lost trying to find said bar and when I finally got there it was closing and Liz and Em had gone. Bugger. Nevermind, Em was back at the hostel and we decided that the next day we would meet up with Liz properly.
