Weds (28th) Admittedly I didnt't do much today in the way of sightseeing. I went over to the other side of the small town and saw the church which is photographed quite a lot in NZ, though my pictures of it are dreadful, and then decided to hitchhike out of town...
Tues (27th) I left Queenstown in the afternoon and so arrived at Lake Tekapo in the early evening having passed the most beautiful turquoise coloured lake I have ever seen (Lake Pukaki) with the snow-capped Mount Cook in the background. Obviously, being me, I hadn't booked anywhere in advance, and got a bit of a shock when I strolled into the information centre and was told that I'd be lucky to get a bed. On her 5th attempt or ringing around the hostels, I managed to find somewhere and was chuffed to realise as I was checking in that this was where Duncan, Doc & dutch girls from Queenstown where also staying. They'd rocked up earlier on the Magic Bus. Spent a very civilised evening having a bbq for $5 and then helping the dutch girls play English scrabble before starting on the drinking games. All good fun.
