Arrived at the crack of dawn Tues (25th) morning and went straight to bed where I stayed till midday. Liz and I then met up with another of Liz's mates from uni, Big Rach who was staying in the same hostel. Having booked our 3 day / 2 night self drive 4x4 'safari' to Fraser Island for the following day, we had a meeting at 4pm to tell us all about it and then I went with a couple of guys from our group to spend our shopping allowance for the trip. Seemed like we were in a good group, but we didn't really go out that night, instead Liz and I cooked dinner in that night with Rach and sat around chatting.
Up at 5:45am Weds (26th) morning to load up the jeeps and have a safety briefing and then our group of 10 were off with 2 other jeeps
Thurs (27th) awaoke at 6am!! to find that dingoes had been to our camp, though not for our group - another group hadn't buried their left over food deep enough and now it was scattered everywhere. Drove north to see a 70 year old shipwreck - the Maheno - supposedly the largest boat of it's time when it was built in 1905 (sunk in 1935). I found this quite fascinating - although there was no information on it, you could make out all kinds of things and I was suprised a lot of the wood was still intack. Continued north past the pinnacles (just different coloured sands) and on to Indian Head
Got up dead early Fri too in order to see two lakes on the way back to the ferry - Lake Wabby and Lake McKensie again. I wasn't too impressed with the former, which looked to me like a large pond (it was green with catfish in it). Nay mind, a large sandune to one side of the lake provided me with great entertainment as people would run/roll/tumble down into the water. Absolutely wiped out by the time we got back to our hostel last night and so Liz and I went to bed early.
Today (Sat 29th) we're just lazing around waiting to head south tomorrow to Noosa to try a spot of surfing. I don't rate my chances of staying on the board and I am a tad concerned about the sharks, but we'll have to wait and see...
Hope all's well back home and everyone's having fun. Sorry these last few entries haven't been particularly amusing but I've had to catch up. Take care and I promise to email individually soon. xxx
