Arrived in Dumaguete from Tagbilaren around 7:30pm and found a crappy little hostel to stay in - though I did have my own bathroom (with flushing toilet no less) which is a novelty here. Thought I'd go out that night to a bar Lonely Planet described as 'the most popular day-and-night haunt for tourists' - grand, I could do with meeting someone for a beer. Hmm, it looked ok from across the street, and the idea of a pool table was enticing. Crossing the street, I could only make out fat old western men in there - by the time I got to the door a Filipino waitress passed me in an extremely skimpy outfit. I left.
Weds (28th) Up early and got a bus and then motobike to a bay further south on the island - Tambobo Bay. Have decided travelling on a motorbike with my backpack is one of the most exhausting experiences
Arrived at the Robinson Crusoe style resort to find I was the only guest there, which was actually really nice, though my hopes of diving were dashed when I was told the owners (who were the only people qualified) were on holiday as it's the low season. Ack well, the beach was beautiful and I awoke the next morning with all my windows open to the most glorious view, of which I took a photo and shall download as soon as my current memory card is full.
Thurs (29th) left the resort in the early afternoon after more frolicking on the beach and in the sea to catch the same transport back to Dumaguete and then a long boat ride to Cebu city where I spent an uneventful night. It's been 4 days since I've seen a westerner I've wanted to talk to, and though the Filipinoes are lovely, I am craving a mildly stimulating conversation with a fellow English-speaker.
