Actually pronounced La hoya, La Jolla is technically part of Sand Diego but feels like a completely different town. Its a small beachy town like Batemans Bay and is really quite nice. We caught the bus there and it was a long ride and we didnt quite know where to get off and got off a bit too early, but it was a nice day for a walk so we walked down to the touristy part and then down to the beach. Its not so much a beach, more cliffs and rocks with water at the bottom, but its really really nice.

La Jolla is famous for its sea lions and the fact that they have inhabited the childrens beach pool and just lay around all day. So we went and had a look at that and they have a seawall which we walked along and saw lots of sea lions. We also saw lots of squirrels! Who live in tunnels all throughout the cliffs and eat the plants and grass, making the cliffs really unstable, so dont go climbing the cliffs at La Jolla!

They are also famous for their marine life and the whole La Jolla coast is protected, they also have a lot of caves! We were going to go snorkelling or kayaking here but we it was forecast to be a bit cold and windy so we didnt prepare to enter the water. But thats ok, because just being near the beach was nice. We did go into one of the caves though, because years back they built a tunnel from the top of the cave to the entrance at the bottom on the water, and its still there. They've built a shop around the top of it and you have to pay to go down the cave but its really quite cool.

We went and had some fish and chips for lunch and then made our way to the nearest bus stop to head back to our hostel. While we were waiting at the bus stop a policeman on a motorbike stopped in the street near us, and then another on another street, and then another and another and then there were police on motorbikes everywhere! Something was going down and we didnt know what it was...then all of a sudden we saw flashing lights coming down the road and bunch of people running was the torch relay for the special olympics! They ran right past us in La Jolla and had about 20 or 30 policeman escorting them! It was pretty cool. Although it was a 1 lane road so there was a verrrrry long line of traffic behind them.
