So here I am, last stop in Australia! Very sad that there's not much time left but I have enjoyed every second of my experience in Australia so far.

During our time in Melbourne Jen and I explored the city more than we had any other city along the way... maybe because we'd spent the most time here. Melbourne has definitely been my favourite city of all and I would definitely consider it as a place to settle if I were to return to Australia. Greater Melbourne is set around the shores of Port Phillip Bay, while the city centre is laid out in a large grid on the northern banks of the Yarra River. It wasn’t too big, but large enough that there was plenty to do each day. Surrounding the bay is a number of inner suburbs which we were able to take short tram rides to from the city centre. Some of these suburban neighbourhoods include, St. Kilda, Richmond, Carlton and Collingwood. Melbourne reminded me a little of Edinburgh, an ample sized city with interesting surrounding areas, along with lush parks and gardens, and most of all their great interest in the creative arts and festivals. Melbourne is a stylish, cosmopolitan city with wide mix of people all maintaining Melbourne’s 'cool’, fashionable and contemporary image!

On one of our visits to St. Kilda, Jen and I stayed until the sun went down, which at this time of year is about 9:45pm! We had a lovely day on the beach in the sun and sat together by the shore as the tide came in. We went to the pier to watch the sun set and the Penguins come out! The Breakwater, which protects the harbour, is home to a colony of Eudyptula minor, (a small breed of Penguin). The Penguins will only emerge after sunset as they don’t like the light, and they hide in the gaps between the rocks until it’s dark enough for them to come out. Unfortunately we were unable to take pictures of the penguins due to the flashes on our cameras so I will download one for you to see!

Sadly, Melbourne is where Jen and I parted and continued on our journeys alone.  Jen flew onto Perth roughly 5 days before I was due to leave Melbourne myself, which meant I had some time feeling a little lonely without her. Luckily I was able to meet up with a very special friend of mine who is living and working in Melbourne at the moment, which was a good distraction from missing my travelling companion. I spent the last few days of my time in Australia with my friend and then sadly it was time to say goodbye...

I could not believe my time in Australia had come to an end so suddenly, despite the fact that it felt like I had been away so long. I have had an absolutely amazing experience on my travels so far and I’m glad to have spent and shared every special moment of it with one of my best friends. I’m sure that in years to come Jen and I will be reminiscing about all of the fun times we had along the way, all of the amazing sights we were lucky enough to see and the wonderful people we met along the way. I think our great adventure together has reminded us of how special our friendship is and along with all the experiences I am glad to be taking that away with me :-) xxx
