Today we left Airlie Beach and had over 12 hours on the bus to our next destination, Kroombit Cattle station in the Australian outback.

We stopped on route to Kroombit for well needed leg stretches and also for some barefoot lawn bowles in Sarina. I wasn't any good but it was very fun!

We arrived in Kroombit around 7pm, just in time for bush nibbles which we were told was stewed goat meat, and it was delicious, and is the most commonly eaten meat at the cattle station. We then sat down at our huge wooden tables with benches running the entire length of the tin roofed shed. We ate homemade ham and pea soup with warm homemade bread, followed by roast beef with veg and gravy!! I was in HEAVEN!!

We put on our cowboy hats and bandanas and it was time to learn how to crack a whip, which, I might add I was very good at! It was bonfire night so we sat around the fire for a while before having a relatively early night.

Up at 5am for goat rodeo!! The best fun I've had of the entire trip. Jen and I paired up after learning how to use a lassoo and entered the arena, full of male goats! We had to take it in turns to lassoo a goat and pull it by the horns and force it into another paddock. Not very easyas the goats were extremely stubborn and super strong, however, we came 3rd and had lots of fun!

After the rodeo was over we headed over to the stables to collect our horses for goat mustering. We spent 2 hours on horse back hearding the goats and moving them over a mile away from where we started, this too was lots of fun. We had to call to the goats as we rounded them up as they are quite lazy, we had to call "hey ub bub bub bub" as we formed an 'L' shape around them.

Kroombit was excellent and I really enjoyed my time there, despite all of the big bugs and spiders that scared me somewhat, and I reckon I'm a real Jillaroo at heart!

p.s. Jillaroo is the Australian word for cowgirl.. for you guys out there it's Jackaroo!
