Day 17

Thursday November 27th

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. It feels like Christmas come early, stuffed from way too much food. Thanksgiving is a big deal over here. It's a public holiday so people spend the day with family eating lots of turkey and pumpkin pie then sleep it off for the rest of the afternoon. It's barley 8pm and I think everyone in this house has had a nap already and I'm yawning away ready for bed.

I've had a pretty chilled out week, recoving from the craziness of Hollywood at the weekend. The other night, me and Paul went to the local mall - over here shops are open til 9/10pm every night which is great, why can't it be like that in the UK, it'll give the chavs somewhere to go other than hovering on street corners! Talking of chavs, you don't get them here, yay! Well, go into a bad part of LA and you get gang members which is slightly worse, but in your average Orange County mall the worst you'll get is a bunch of pre-teens sipping their Starbucks on the benches.

In the mall, we visited a pet shop that had lots and lots of cute doggies. I so wanted to take one home! I felt sorry for them as most were inside glass cages and pawing their way up to escape, but Paul insisted they have a high turnover as almost everyone at the mall has a dog. I can't wait to get my own place and get my own cute pooch.

I spent yesterday at home chilling, reading a couple of good books and curled up listening to the 90s music radio channel on cable TV with the cat snoozing by my side... who needs a job, I could easily be a lady of leisure.

Today was Thanksgiving. After an hour or two in the coffee shop this morning, we returned home to wait for a late lunch of turkey, candied yam (melted marhmallows on top to make it sweet), cranberry, macaroni cheese, mashed potatoe, green beans and stuffing. I had a large plateful and it was yummy, and there's still lots left to finish tomorrow. We then had dessert of homemade brownies, fruit salad, ice cream, and my fave, pumpkin pie. I've just had another slice, it was yummy, although I feel a little sick now.

Another reason I'm yawning away is that I've been playing babysitter all afternoon as a family friend has been visiting with her adorable yet hyper two year old son Hunter. He seems to love playing catch the (pretend) spiders and Thomas the Tank Engine with 'Ooocy' as he calls me and wore us all out, including the poor cat who has fled to my bedroom for some peace and quiet on the end of my bed, where I'm about to join her to have a snooze.

This weekend there's talk of going to visit Erika in San Diego, as its only about an hour away and maybe going into LA to visit Paul's favourite record shop Ameoba Records and go to Santa Monica pier. The following weekend Amanda is hosting a murder mystery party which I can't wait for as it involves dressing in character, then after that it'll amost be Christmas! I won't be seeing any snow this year, unless we drive to the nearest mountains but I'm not much of an adventure-sports type. Although we did get some rain yesterday and today - which is a rarety here as the last time LA really got rain was about 9 months ago, so it makes the news whenever we have a bit of a downpour. It's not quite cold and wet Staines outside but certainly cooled down a little from last week, although it's supposed to improve again soon. It may have been a rainy Thanksgiving but here's for a 100 degrees Christmas!
