Wanting a change of scenery and to break up our overland adventure to Indonesia we headed to Khao Sok National Park. I very nearly didn't make it at all having yet another near death experience. Only in Thailand could the emergency exit of a coach, which I was sitting next to, fling open while turning a sharp corner at high speed. It was only from Matt grabbing me with both arms that I didn't go flying out - not funny!
We had to change buses at Surat Thani, deciding that we weren't going to pay a stupid price for the tourist bus (600 baht). Our mission then was to locate and jump on the local bus. So, I went on a 'Challenge Anika' style pursuit of the Khao Sok bus. I eventually found a guy that said he would get us on the local bus for 150 baht each, see everyone a bit of effort goes a long way! For 3 ½ hours we endured the bumpy ride seated at the back of the bus with a bird and a Buddha, what you get for being a tight ass he he!!
Being the only tourists on the bus, we got off to be greeted by a crowd of touts, all eager for our business. We opted for the cheapest and ended up in quite a nice little tree house.
The national park itself was a complete disappointment, it didn't really help that we were pretty much flooded out, I don't think we really came in the right season. We gave it a go with our cheap plastic macs on but I won't deny it was a miserable day. We only saw 2 monkeys and could barely even make them out. The closest we got to the wildlife were the 2 leeches that had decided to attach themselves to Matt's foot ouch! The park ranger had to remove them by pouring tobacco leaves soaked in water, who'd have thought such small things could make you bleed so much yuk!
