Cherating was a quiet little seaside village on the West Coast of Malaysia, it was certainly a breath of fresh air after spending a night in Kuantan. It was such a contrast to the extremely modern capital but it certainly didn't lack in charm.
Our mission was to get straight in to a guest house and start enjoying Matt's birthday. It was only by chance that as we wondered through the town, at the hottest part of the day, with our massive backpacks on(I'm sure mine's getting heavier!) that we were approached by a local who said he had a traditional house for rent. It was slightly over our price range but we decided to splurge. Although basic(a wooden hut with 3 rooms) it had a kitchen with a gas stove and we were actually looking forward to cooking for ourselves - the novelty of eating out wears off after every day for 3 months. We spent a lot of time just chilling out, reading, cooking & drinking in the house, we were really enjoying having that sort of space to ourselves instead of being in a little box room in a cheap guest house which you can't wait to get out of.
We had some friendly neighbours, especially the children who seemed very curious of us, some kept walking past our door saying hello & running off and others just watched us. We also had a few encounters with some over friendly goats and chickens who kept trying to come in the house - they are all free range!
Even if only for a few days it was really nice to be part of this little community in the heart of Malaysia.
