                                                                    PIN Code

What's a pincode, what can you do with it and where do you have to pay attention to? These are the subjects that are handled on this page.

PIN is the abbreviation of "Personal Identification Number". We come across a PIN code at many devices: at alarms, cash cards and also at the cellular phone. Mostly a pincode protects something against abuse, and at the cellular phone this is also the case. Naturally, you don't want anyone to call with your cellular phone unasked when it's turned off. To make sure this doesn't happen you can switch on the PIN code on your device. How to do this is different with every cellular phone, but in most cases you can do this in the menu "security".

When you buy a cellular phone the pincode is 0000 as a standard (this can be different at some providers because some of them already tune in a pincode). It is wise to change the pincode as soon as possible. You can do this in the menu of your cellular phone (consult the manual) but you can also use an instruction code that works on every cellular phone:

**04*oldPIN*newPIN*newPIN#

When you gave in the code above you have to press "ok" or press the send key. After this your pincode is changed into the new pincode. You have to give in your new pincode twice to prevent any faults.

What to do when you forgot your pincode or gave in the wrong pincode 3 times? Don't worry. For this problem is a PUC code (Personal Unlock Code). You can read more information about the PUC code elsewhere within this helpdesk.

Where do you have to pay attention to with the pincode?
A pincode is simcard committed. This means that when you put another simcard into your cellular phone you will have to give in the pincode of that simcard and not the pincode of the simcard that you just removed from the device. This may sound weird, but actually it's very logical. A simcard is not more than a small chip where information is stored on and with which you can make a connection with the network. Because of this you pincode is also stored on your simcard. You can find more information about the simcard elsewhere within this helpdesk.

Furthermore you have to take into account that a pincode is only useful when you turned your cellular phone off. Only then you cellular phone is protected against unauthorized use. When your cellular phone is turned on a possible thieve can call with your cellular phone without any strains. In this case you have to contact the costumer service to block your simcard. By doing this no one can call with your simcard anymore.
