                                                             Conversation on hold

With the most subscriptions and with some prepaid providers you can answer another call / start another call and hold another call during a conversation. On this page I will explain how holding calls works and what the costs of this are. Are you not sure if you can hold calls with your provider? Consult the costumers service of your provider.

The easiest way of holding calls is when you're calling handsfree. Then you can see exactly what you're doing on the screen of your cellular phone. Most of the time you can hold a call during a conversation at "options" or "menu" (different at every cellular phone), after this you have to choose for "standby" or "hold call". Consult the manual of your cellular phone for this.

When holding calls?
If you're called by a person who has a question to you you can put this conversation on hold. You can look the question up or you can deliberate with someone else without the person on the phone hearing this. In this case you could just turn off the microphone of the cellular phone. A second example can be that you're being called by someone when you're already talking to another person on you cellular phone. During 20 seconds you will hear short beeps that indacate that you're being called by another person. Most of the time you can press "change" to take the second call. By doing this the first call is automatically on hold. With "change" you can also go back to the first conversation. You're only kind when you take the second call and ask the second caller to wait a moment because you have to finish the first conversation. Now you're also kind to the first caller because he was the one that called you first and it wouldn't be fare to him to break his conversation.

You can also put up a second line when you're already calling with someone else. You have to put the first conversation on hold and dial the number for the second conversation and press "call". You can change from the first conversation to the second one and contrary by pressing "change".

Do you not want to use the holding calls funtion or a possible second conversation? You can also turn this service on and off. To do this you can use instruction codes or you can change the settings in the menu of your cellular phone (consult the manual of your cellular phone for this). You can find the network codes below:

Holding calls / second conversation:
Activating: **43#[send]
Cancelling: ##43# [send]
Check status: *#43# [send]

The costs
There are no extra costs charged for the use of an extra conversation. When you're calling someone and you put this conversation on hold because of a second line, the costs for the first conversation will go on. During the second conversation you're still paying for the first conversation except when you have hung up on this one. When both conversations are incoming calls you don't pay anything for the changing and holding calls.
