Singapore is really clean just like everyone says it is. We treated ourselves to a lovely aircon room not too far from anything, grabbed a map and headed out to see what there was to see. David's Mum had bought him a t-shirt years ago with all the things you're not allowed to do listed on the front. There was the not-chewing-gum one and from the looks of the pavements no one does! No one was smoking outside but there were a couple of pieces of litter around!
It's an amazing place. Lots of new buildings, wide clean streets, organised traffic that obeys traffic signals, pleasant people everywhere, lush green plant and tree life, loads of shops to go into and of course, Raffles!!
We went into one of the many shopping malls to see if it was true about the cheap electronic goods. It IS true. We looked at the millons of items that are yours for the taking if you just hand over the plastic or some cold hard shopping vouchers. We had just purchased a bluetooth keyboard for my PDA in Sydney and could have saved $AU50 if we'd have waited till Singers!! Bummer! Ah well, you don't know these things do you?
During our explorations we came across an Armenian Church, the Armenian Church of St Gregory the Illumintor, St Pauls (they're everywhere!!), a cool fire station and then went to find Raffles. It's quite a distinguished looking building surrounded by lots of beautiful palm trees. We went to have a look inside the foyer/reception area and stood turning circles having a Captain Cook when one of the Concierge interupted us and pointed out ever so politely that there was a dress code for the hotel and we would have to leave! Well, he actually only spoke to David, so I reckon could have gotten away with it - thongs and all!!! Kicked out of Raffles, wouldn't you know it!
Early tomorrow we're back to India, but just to get our Bangers visas in Kolkata. Hope David can handle it!!
