For some reason having overseas experience doesn't count for much in the IT field though. In fact if you've never worked in Oz, it counts against you. So we made the decision go to Bangers and see the cricket thinking that it wouldn't be too exerting just sitting on our rear-ends, swigging water, waving flags and clapping a lot.
One day we went into the city and down to Circular Quay where there was an exhibition of painted bears. They had toured the world since 2004, I think, and were spending some time in Oz. We tried to find one for every country we'd been to but they weren't all there. I took pictures of all those we found and also the ones I liked. The one for Cananda actually covered with mosaic with pieces of broken china - even bits of cups and saucers!
When we got back David's Mum had a message for us. Someone from David's previous workplace had phoned, and it wasn't one of his friends. Intriguing........ Wondering what it could be about David phoned back. They've offered him a manager's position. Hmmmmm, what to do? We talked it over and decided it's too good to pass up. We're still going to Bangers to watch the cricket but after that looks like we'll be heading back to London. Not sure what I'll do. I'm not sure I want to go back to work! The only good thing for me will be catching up with everybody again! Summer's coming - get the girls together, some nice chilled white wine outside somewhere....... I could get used to it again. Hope winter holds off for a while! I haven't seen too much cold weather over the past 8 months! Oh - then there's Ryanair and EasyJet. France, here I come for champers shopping!!!! Then there's the Christmas Markets in Germany where I can skate and drink gluhwine. It's looking better and better.
The day finally arrived. I'd said all my goodbyes in Adelaide, Melbourne and to my brother and his family already. We decided it would be less painful for David's Mum if we did a kiss and cry instead of her hanging round the airport getting more upset. She did hold out until the very last moment as she was hugging me, then it all came out. She'd really enjoyed having David at home again and of course will worry more now. But London is calling and we've got flags to wave in Bangers!
Singapore here we come!
