A stop over in Boquete which turned out to be really great, so great that we finally spend 4 days here. The days after our arrival, we booked a coffee tour, and visited a plantation and factory situated only a few minutes from town. It lasted 3hours and was exceptionally good, with great info and a whole lot of false ideas corrected.
The same night, we grouped with 5 people from our hostal and climbed Baru volcano, which elevates over 3000masl. It was a 26km trail, we left a 10.30pm and reached the sommet at 5am. We waited over an hour for the sun to rise and enjoyed the show nature was offering. It was very cold and we were so tired but i could not have dreamt of a better view.
In the afternoon we slept and then went to have a good dinner. The next day, we went to Paradise Garden, a sort of Panamenian RSPCA. Opened a couple of years ago by an English couple, initially coming to Panamá to bread their 16 parrots, it turned out to be a welcoming centre for hurt and abandonned animals, mainly monkeys and birds. The place as the names gives out, is a real paradise, the people working there, mostly volunteers, show the people around and tell the story of each animal. As often as they can, they release the animals back and nature, or try to breed them so they don´t become extinct. On the same afternoon, we set off to the hot springs, without any preparation, we arrived there at 6.00pm, thanks to a combination of hitch hiking, busing and walking. The problem is, the sun sets around 6.30pm and the springs are in the middle of the forest and not accessible by any public transport (we walked about an hour to get there after the last bus dropped us off). We had to run back through the forest in mid daylight in order not to get stuck in the dark. It was quite an experience. The bath was delicious, the water very hot and clean, a pure but short pleasure.
The next morning we were ready to go (photos to come soon) More thumbnails ...
