Stockholm was my favorite city even before I had been there. Some people dream of going to New York or Paris, well, I dreamed of Stockholm.
I can assure you I was not disappointed! From the city's narrow cobblestone streets to its diverse architecture to the beautiful parks and all the water- Stockholm is BEAUTIFUL. It's a great city for all types of people: hippies, museum geeks, nature lovers, and urbanites- all spread out onto 14 islands.
Additionally, there are the suburbs and the thousands of islands of the archipelago!
The city itself is a museum (and a catwalk quite honestly). Every little nook, stone and house has a story. The central island Gamla Stan (Old Town) where the city began some centuries ago oozes charm and history, the island of Söder, -which I called home for 5 days- the hub for hippies and students boasts a laid-back feeling. Östermalm, the Swedish Upper East Side, home to celebrities and wannabes, prides itself in being the most sophisticated district and so on.

Some must dos:
-Go on a tour of Gamla Stan at the
-Go on a tour of the City Hall and go up to the tower (to take the exact same pics of Stockholm that you'll find on Google images)
-Visit Drottningholms Slott- Try to go on a tour of the palace, theater and China Pavilion.
-Wander around Djurgården and visit Skansen - huge open air museum- and spend an afternoon at Gröna Lund -Amusement Park with everything from free falls to roller coasters to haunted houses. A must see on Djurgården is the Vasa Museum, where a very well preserves 350 year old warship stands in the middle of the building.
-Spend a whole day exploring the streets of Gamla Stan and visiting what's worthwhile on the island. Start with the Kungliga Slott, watch the Changing of the Guard.... Go to the Royal Armory... Move on to the Cathedral...
-Take a boat out to the archipelago. Stockholm natives often say that you haven't seen Stockholm of you haven't seen it from the water. So take a boat to one of the islands of the archipelago (beware of tourist traps) and enjoy a nice afternoon at a typical Swedish archipelago town.
