Sitting here listening to the pouring rain, and it's bright and sunny outside! Typical weather for the DR. We visited Santo Domingo over the weekend, just to catch up on some rest and relaxation. Unfortunately it wasn't that relaxing--we stayed in a hostel with big cockroaches and a manager that was a little off her game. We did get some shopping in, and I'm happy to say that for the first time in two weeks, I ate some good food :)
Friday was a rough day for us. We held a clinic at the Haitian Batey--saw approximately 15 patients or so. Lots of injuries from motobikes--either crashes or rough riding. Sore backs, muscles, and knees. So, mostly we talked about body mechanics, and activity modification.
I'm attaching pics of a typical Batey family. Very kind people. They don't have mirrors, and think it's neat to see themselves in the camera
Friday was also the last day for home visits. There are so many children in need here. I'm consistently seeing diagnoses here, that if caught early (which they aren't) can be helped, cured, or at least addressed. It's frustrating, and I have shed many tears over the fact that health care here is a luxury, and often a novelty.
As you can imagine, I'm getting more and more homesick. Definitely counting the days. I'm looking forward to being with my own family-
Hope you are all well.
