Where I stayed
The Landing Motel
Previous to our stormy night, it was a very pleasant evening. We went for a nice dinner at a restaurant called Umu. We got talking with some locals named Wayne and Michele who invited us to their home after dinner and showed us a lovely time. They showed us around their 1.6 acre property on which they are able to keep 2 sheep and some chickens, grow olives, 2 kinds of grapes, tangelo, lime, peach, apricot, plum, apple, and orange trees, plus a vegetable garden and herb garden. They have a lovely big modern home plus a guest cottage that they rent out. All that on 1.6 acres.
Even though we had a fierce wind this morning, we didnt get the rain that was expected so we packed up and headed off to our next destination hoping that we wouldn't run into severe weather along the way. Because of the bad weafher we didn't get to go down the east side of the peninsula and see the hot water beach that Cathy wrote about. The wind howled all day and we ran into heavy rains here and there but it wasn't too bad. Our Camry is such a great touring car, we rarely felt the wind and no trouble driving through downpours.
We are now in Whakatane, by the on the Bay of Plenty in a beautiful 2 bedroom motel apt. It is brand new and has a lot of luxuries like a spa tub and a heated towel rack and a dishwasher. Can't wait to try the spa tub with all those jets. It is huge, like a small swimming pool! We are here for 3 nights. There is even free laundry and decent wifi.
We are hoping to get some beach time at Ohope Beach while we here. It will all depend on the weather. There are other interesting things to do in this area so I am sure will be able to occcupy ourselves. And for sure we will be telling you all about it!
Bye for now
