After working on the Women's Marathon on Sunday, I was done early enough to go to see the Forbidden City, which is the center of Beijing and the castle/residence of the last 500+ years of Chinese emperors. It was truly magnificent and vast. I wasn't able to see all of it but I saw a lot of the main areas. What was interesting was seeing the National Treasury area, which wanted an additional admission. I don't know if I mentioned it, but I am essentially a VIP in this huge city. Just having my ID is enough to get into all of the national historical sites, museums and the subways, and buses are free as well. I was able to get into the treasury area free as well, and they had stopped letting people into the area as well. They saw my pass and opened the door! It was beautiful, tranquil and intimate. Gardens, couryards and a royal theater were inside. Had a lovely time, but once they start to close up they are merciless. Thousands of people still in the palace, and the toilets are locked shut before the museum is even closed. I made a fuss about it, and several people stopped and stared. I jestured that I needed to pee and they were saying sorry. So I jestured that I would piss on the ground and everybody got shocked and I made the peeing sound "pssssssssss" as I waved my hands around like a golfer with an invisible golf club. Then everybody started laughing and I laughed too as I walked away. Doing the pointing my finger at my head and making the crazy gesture and pointing at the toilet. VERY EXCITING
On the whole a great and exhausting day.

Amazing, awe inspiring!
Hi Lance,
We got back from vacation and I've had a chance tonight to catch up on your travel blog entries and pictures. I am just so amazed and ecstatic for you being there. John and I think of you every time we watch the Olympics and wonder, Is Lance filming this? We figure anything high up or distance shots is you? Were you up there during opening ceremony filming the spacewalking? I love all your entries and pictures. You can write a photo journal book about your experience and sell it after you get home! If you have a chance to see Shui Bai and Rose and Frank again before you leave, tell them Hi and give them my love. Will you be filming the closing ceremony? Can you go to any of the Olympic events when you are not filming? Have you got to see any of them that you haven't been filming? Can you go to the Olympic Athletes center and talk to some english speaking people there? This is a life changing event for you, isn't it. One of those milestone events that will forever change your course.

Your pictures are just amazing! I love them all; some humorous, some awesome, some disgustingly beautiful, some mild blowing, some just so perfect, like the pomegranite one. I would love a print of that one! There is something about it that is so exotic, simple, balanced, and just enchanting to me. I love the color and texture contrasts and how your pictures capture them so well. I just am left wanting more and can't wait until the next entry!

I just watched us win Gold and Silver in the women's balance beam. Shawn Johnson is pixie cute! I was really glad she won!

Good night Lance! I love and miss you! Can't wait to talk to you when you get home! When do you get home? Are you stopping in Seattle on your way home to NY or flying straight through?

Bye for now! Love, A
