Our bus guy came on time to meet us outside of our travel agency (7am). We then followed him all around the khaosan, and waited for a long time as he collected the other backpackers. We finally made our way to our large, lovely, airconditioned bus... first class just as promised. I started to feel crazy as i realized we had passed the same KFC 3 times, and realized that we were certainly driving in circles. But eventually we got on the road. We stopped once to grab lunch, and have our visas for cambodia processed. Also, the bus was showing possibly the worst movie in history where cedric the entertainer and john travlota were some strange dreadlocked aliens... battlefield earth or something. TERRIBLE!!! Anywho... we got out of the bus with our big bags, and waited in line to have our passports stamped... it was insanely hot, and dirty, and the line was long and slow, but eventually we passed. Our bus guy was waiting again outside as we walked across the friendship bridge and officially stepped on cambodian soil, then another line and another stamp and more paperwork, and more heat, and more dirt. Met a couple of guys from ft.collins, actually they went to UVA and knew my friend Nathan (a friend who was on the gates scholarship getting his masters in Cambridge while i was there), and the Simm's in co. One of them told us he was going to tulane in the fall to get his masters, lots of nostalgia, lots of recomendations for him and where to go, where to live, etc etc etc... Then in a tuk tuk with two british fellows who were on our bus, and our bus guy, to their cambodian sister company. Then transfer into our new bus... NOT airconditioned, not lovely, not large, and NOT 1st class. But c'est la vie.
