Red Earth Safari: heading back to Perth

It was a hot, hot, hot,hot day. Along the long read road we stopped regularly for anything of interest: fuel, lunch, toilets etc. We stayed overnight at the old convent (with a story of being haunted) in Northampton where we slept in a dorm of about 20 beds. It was old, dirty, and dusty and I felt pretty awful: looking forward greatly to getting "home".
After our pasta dinner, some stayed up and played cards. I went to bed.
We left again at 7:00am and traveled south down the red, green, grey vista'd highway towards our overnight stop in Geraldton. Past the termite mounds, Billabong Pub, the floodways, Kalbarri, Hutt River Province. We were on our way home. It was very sad to see the number of dead kangaroos on the road. Two had been run over by a couple of enormous mining equipment escorted by what looked to be a private agency. Terry said they were taking them back to Perth for either sale or refurbishing for the various mines up the west coast.
