I booked my ticket to Helsinki. Seemed not to be difficult. July 31 Heathrow to Stockholm at 1:50, Stockholm to Helsinki at 19:25. The person I spoke to told me I can book my onward ticket and any others at any time. No need to do it now.

I left for Ince at about 11:30 and got to the area 'way early so drove down to Tremerton and took a picture there. Then drove down where I thought Ince was. Turned out I'd come in on the wrong road so I wound up at a farm, an elderly gentleman with two canes and a dog named Walter; however, he was able to re-direct me. I continued to drive down increasingly narrow Cornish lanes. They were so narrow you could not get two cars down there if you tried. Quite an un-traveled road and birds seem to sit in the road expecting not to be run over. The road gets narrower and narrower until you come to a 4 way stop. Ince and Elm Tree Cottage are on the same sign 01 Cornish lane

. Straight on and you are upon Ince.

The Saltash city brochure says "...castle at Ince, a few miles up the Lyner River. Its construction was commenced by Henry Killigrew circa 1640, and completed by Edward Noseworthy circa 1655. Originally known as Ince House, it was designed as a dwelling in 'mock castle' form. It is the oldest brick building in Cornwall and the grounds are occasionally opened for charity events."

It was a lovely hot summer day. The gate was closed but I rang the house and the gate magically opened. On I went down the driveway and standing in front of the castle were my host and hostess. They greeted me warmly as did their lovely purebred greyhound and their daughter's mini-dachshund, who was not nearly as welcoming. As of yesterday Lady Boyd is just off the board of directors for the Royal Horticultural Society at Kew and hence a huge interest in John Lindley. We went in downstairs (which they pointed out in my ancestor's time probably had the animals in it). We went through to the lounge and dining room then out to paving stones covered with an awning where we had a lovely cooling drink of lemon squash.

Lots of discussion about Ince and my family's history there 02 Trematon Castle from near Ince

. There was a fire at Ince since my last visit; however, fortunately not a lot of the early history was lost. A relative of his from Whitworth Art College provided copies of my ancestor's drawings to him and he very kindly provided me with the address as well. Their daughter did up a brilliant history of Ince when she was younger and they gave me a copy. He had some questions about why Ince was purchased and many of the stories about my ancestors while they lived there. I offered information about the marriage record I had just located, their later residence of the Cottage at Saltash and meadow as well as possible earlier generations in Flushing, Mylor and Penryn. We also shared some more personal memories I have of his parents, who I enjoyed meeting very much in my earlier visit.

Lunch was a home made terrine, I think it was called, with crackers. It was a lovely cool dish with brawn and pâtés as well as garlic slices in the meat. We also had salad with tomatoes, a simple sauce and a French wine I did not recognize. It was all very tasty. Dessert was a home made raspberry compote with Ince raspberries and double crème. Then we had a hard cheese and a delicious jelly of some description with it which was just a wonderful final touch. Yummy. About 2 I started making motions to leave. They encouraged me to stay and take photos. I did so outside not in. Too personal.

I left shortly after 2:30. It was a lovely visit and I very much enjoyed meeting them.
