Cloudy drive down Highway 5A winding down past old farms and lakes still covered with ice. About 9 degrees but temperature dropped and wind picked up for a bit bringing a snowy squall. Lovely tea, fresh bread with home made jam and visit with Peggy and Jerry at Napier Lake. Continued on down the road to Merritt
. Interesting to notice as I got further south little breaches in the ice on the lakes as well as some warmer spots where there is no ice. Some water birds come into view - merganser, not sure what the others were. Closer to Merritt patches where the ice pushed up onto the shore. Took a picture of that looking back towards the hills with the sun on them. Nice feeling of cold to warm. Weather changeable from cloudy to sunny to rainy.
Drive down the Coquihalla was uneventful. Snow where one would expect it, clear also where one would expect it.
Got into Vancouver about 9pm and into my favorite Vancouver B & B - Shaunessy Village on 12th. The restaurant was still open so ordered beer (Bud) and an egg salad sandwich with a side salad. The staff had their own idea about what I'd ordered - a slight language problem - and gave me a huge green salad first as well as a *toasted* egg salad sandwich with boiled veg on the side (diced carrots, corn and beans) which I left.
Bed and rather exhausted.
If I ever suggest I will pack up house and store things for a year, for heavens sake tell me to give my head a shake. It's done at last; however, I could not have done it without my wonderful friends Linda and Ron urging me on and offering their own time (Barb as well) and home to help store things. Not to mention my workmates and the "Gold's Gals, without whom I would not be in the excellent shape I am. In case anyone wonders, I have WAY too much stuff with me! Will have to scale down by about 1/3 before leaving NA. Good thing I am driving for the first part of the trip.
