Hotel Cipreses, Monteverde

We made it to our hotel in Monteverde by early afternoon on Saturday. We had lunch at Bar Amigos down the street, before going on the Trapiche Coffee Tour. During the coffee tour we got to see a coffee and sugar plantation, which included the processes of harvesting and roasting coffee beans, and making candy/liquor with sugar cane. Later that night we went on a night hike to see some of Costa Rica's nocturnal life. We didn't see anything super exciting (no leopards or monkeys) but we did see a few sloths and some cool insects, as well as some bioluminescent fungi. The night hike was followed by dinner at Soda Bonaza, a small restaurant owned by a local family.

We were up and ready by 730a on Sunday for a hike through the Santa Elena cloud forest reserve, for some more wildlife sightseeing. We had really nice weather in the morning (which actually made the cloudforest not as cloudy as it normally is), but by mid afternoon it was pouring rain. It rained the entire time we went on a zipline excursion through the rainforest. I had a lot of fun ziplining, but was drenched and freezing by the end. After we got cleaned up and dried off after the ziplining, we had a chance to see some frog species at a nearby frog pond before heading back to Soda Bonanza for the second night. We'd spent two interesting days in the rainforest, and it was off to the beach in the morning!

Sloths are actually quite rare, more so than monkeys. I'm excited that you saw one, even if they are kind of boring to watch.
