We were greeted in Naxos by dozens of people with signs and photos of their rooms for rent. It all happened so fast but Sally and I eventually settled on a place with this women. Our priorities were a bed, private bathroom and electrical outlets but we got much, much more. Our room for the next four nights not only had two comfortable beds and a private bathroom, it also had toilet paper, sheets and towels, a kitchenette and fridge, reading lights, plenty of electrical outlets, a balcony and was a 2 minute walk to the beach and not even five minutes to the main town square. We were in heaven!
Since our room was so nice we didn't feel bad about spending a lot of time in it! We went to the beach, wandered through town, ate some great Greek food and watched two amazing sunsets but other than that, we read, played cards, slept or worked on our travel journals in our room. I definitely had a hard time leaving Naxos but Samos was also pretty wonderful.
We also arrived in Samos without any accomodations but initially we weren't as lucky as in Naxos. We arrived at 9:30pm so the two of us and all the other backpackers on the ferry ended up at the Gagou Beach Hotel for the night. AC cost an extra 5 euro but at least we had a t.v. in our room with, "The Towering Inferno" on in English. Haha! We left the hotel early the next morning and were fortunate enough to get a room with Maria at Pension Trova. Samos was another lovely town with a great pebbly beach that Sally and I made excellent use out of.
On August 1st I said goodbye to Sally as she headed off to Turkey and I spent that evening dining with a retired English couple that I had met in Corfu (small world eh?). We had a great evening an even watched a very Greek festival with singers and a saxophone player that had the crowd singing!
I said goodbye to the Greek Islands on August 2nd and took an overnight ferry back to Athens. I spent the day at the National Archaeological museum and doing some last minute shopping! Today I flew to Paris where I will stay with Shauna and Fabrice for one week which means...I am coming home on August 11th.
