Ride to Petchabun up in the mountains for a bike meet. Its 380kms away. Its 8:30pm before we set off and to crown the glory... We are all on Hondas under 150cc!!! Yup, KM7 Goes to Petchabun!
meet at the shop. Been a hell of a day. in the aftermath of head teacher leaving and Director for Bangkok coming to do a workshop, I've attempted to coordinate an exit for the former and a smooth entrance for the later. seem to pull it off ok but had to leave after the "Phonics" workshop and get ready for serious hike on a bike! Arrived at 6:30pm forgetting that a 7pm tee off means 8:30pm if you are lucky. got my stuff together, had my bike checked over as bolts had come loose and the swing arm bolt was the main protaganist! that would be the bolt that holds the back wheel of the bike..err... to the rest of the bike!! Crucial would be an understatement, I think. But as the hord of Hondas gather my bike appears to be in good shape for the trip. stop for fuel and away we go!
As usual there were various casualties along the long winding road to our first overnight stop. A broken Exhaust ( again!) rendered one bike an early retirement and a place on the back of the VIGO pick up, Our trusty support vehicle. My swing arm blot went south again after about 150 kms and then the replacement went 10 minutes later. Now I have two bolts locking each other on! SAFE. hard to describe the feeling of the back end coming off but if you remember the Renault meagane adverts to the sound track of, "I see you baby, shaking that ass!" then you have somekind of image of my progress down the road with the bolt hanging out by about 4 inches!!
We got to the rest stop and pitched out tents on the carpark of the service station encircled by our bikes and service truck. it's 2:30am!! I'm shattered and sleep instantly atop my sleeping bag with just my jacket over my upper body. Hmmm, don't need to remind you that its 19th January and we are in the mountains (ish) now... ) I work to a pleasantly warm tent and surprise at how with only 4 hours sleep on a concrete floor, I felt like a million dollars! headache gone. no stiffness. ready to ride on!!
We headed up country for another 50kms before stopping at Pui's Folks place where they had prepared a huge bowl of rice spooge that actually tasted pretty good. after one bowl I took a few pics
I ride back solo with the briefest of stops for fuel and directions (which prove I have taken a different route back! ) and arrive in good time 4hours 15 minutes. 370kms! IN real money thats 230miles on a Honda step-thru moped in a little over 4 hours. 57mph average speed. sounds spot on at 91 kms... Bike was on 3/4 throttle all the way home. Great little mover.
Next time maybe I will get the party...
