We bid farewell to France, and headed to Italy!! As usual, tour manager Ally played songs suited to the destination - and ofcourse one was 'That's Amore'!!! Ally had a little competition running on the bus this day - counting the number of tunnels from when we first entered Italy until the first service stop. Now did you guys know that there's 117 and a half tunnels?!?!?! I didn't, but I had the closest guess of 118. I won a bottle of red wine, which I have used for cooking since being back in London.
So that was something fun to pass the time.... at the first service stop we had our first opportunity to eat pizza in Italy!! Oh my god the slices were massive, but so delicious! There are some photos... :-) Also at this stop I took advantage of my first chance to buy Italian chocolates like Ferrero Rocher, Baci.... and Pocket Coffees. I didn't like the latter, but I bought a box to share with the bus - after my win from the previous night I felt like sharing's caring!
We arrived into Florence early evening at our hotel. Checked in, had a nice shower, then got ready to go for dinner that night. We also had a few drinks before as well - always nice to have a few cheeky ones!! We went to a restaurant call 'La Certosa' for dinner. It was just near the monastery, which looked pretty awesome at night. We got a welcome drink, and there was wine provided on the tables. I've never had the taste for wine, but mixed with a bit OJ I was fine. The food was delicious!! Entertainment was provided, and it was awesome... a man was playing the acordian most of the night (he played 'Mambo Italiano' during the night), a keyboard player started, first song off the mark.... 'That's Amore'!! Still early in the night though, but it didn't matter to Rach and I, we were up there, doing the Shooks name proud!! The whole thing reminded me of a Shooks family get together. The music, the food, the dancing.... it was all quite emotional for me by the end of the night.
After the dinner we headed into town to go to 'Space Electronica Disco'. We got it on a quiet night. The bus ride there was more fun than the club itself. We had our own little Contiki dance party happening in the aisle of the bus!! Chef and I did a rendition of Grease, then more people got up to dance, and by the end of the ride the aisle was full of people all swinging from the bag racks - awesome!! The following day was spent in Florence. Got my illegal photo of the Statue of David, saw another church, or should I say cathedral, ate gelato (probably the worst in Florence), and walked along the Ponte Vecchio (a bridge for those who don't know). The weather wasn't great, but Florence was beautiful. I do hope to go back one day - and I'm sure I will because I rubbed the pig's nose so that means I'll be back there one day!!
I bought myself a white gold ring on the Ponte Vecchio. Not cheap, but not hideously over priced either. It's cute, and shiny and I'm glad I bought it. After all our sight seeing we headed up to a magnificent view of Florence for our group photo. It turned out really nice which is good I think. So that was it for Florence. I didn't get any photos of the dinner coz I didn't take my camera out that night, but I've got a few from our day there, hope you like!! L :-) xo More thumbnails ...
